Little Golden Book Classics: Three Best-Loved Tales: Mister Dog/the Color Kittens/Seven Little Postmen/3 Books in 1 (Little Golden Book Classic Col)
Published in Hardcover by Golden Pr (August, 1992)
Author: Margaret Wise Brown
Average review score:

A favorite for generations
My parents enjoyed reading this book to me and my brother almost 50 years ago. Now I am thrilled when my two kids ask me to "read it again Dad!" Margaret Wise Brown bent the norm when she wrote this book. Mister Dog, aka Crispin Crispian, lives a great life and shares it willingly with rabbits, cats, other dogs, and a charming little boy. Brown was indeed wise to ask Garth Williams to do the illustrations because they illuminate the book, as well as the room in which you may be sitting to read the book, with warmth, delight, and amusement. If only this classic could be re-printed . . . more families could cuddle up to this tale of play and cooperation.

Mister Dog
I've had Mister Dog since i was a baby and loved it and still do. Unfortunately I've come to believe that i have the last remaining copy and its missing the back cover and have been hoping to get another copy. It is a great book, it gives great advice, the last page is brilliant.

Mister Dog, The Dog Who Belonged to Himself. That's it!
One of the most whimsical, quirky, endlessly entertaining (for the parents as well as the kids) books I've found (this one at a yard sale). Politically incorrect, Mister Dog lives in a 2-story doghouse, eats strawberries, walks himself, and smokes a corncob pipe. He meets and adopts a little boy who also belongs to himself, and the two independent souls begin to live together cooperatively and happily. Indescribably charming. One of Ms.Brown's best, and should be revived for all of us jaded parents who have to read the same story over and over again. This one holds up and makes us smile every time.

Little Monster's Bedtime Book (Golden Look-Look Book)

My Favorite Children's Book Ever
I recently was asked the question,"What's your favorite children's book?" on a survey. This was an obvious choice for me. I can still recite most of the monster's rhymes by heart 20 years later. I bought Mercer Mayer's new Professor Wormbog book for my niece a few month's back because it has all of the same characters.

Best bedtime bookever!!
I will always remember this book. When I was a child it was my favorite and always will be. The illustrations and rhymes kept me reading it over and over. I had misplaced the book when I was young and just recently searched for another copy so I could share the fun with my own children.

Monsters and Rhymes
My mom used to read this book to me and my brother. It is wonderfully silly and detailed. You can follow Little Monster and his pet through the story book his Pop is reading him. There he meets a world full of strange and silly monsters. It is one of the best kids books out there. Pick up a copy, if you can find one.

Her First Book Read to her
This book is great. It was the first book read to her when she was just born. She still loves at 18 months. We read it to her at night and she loves to look at all the neat pages.

ONE OF MY DAUGHTER'S FAVORITE BOOKS SINCE 2 MONTHS OLD!
PRECIOUS MOMENTS LITTLE PRAYERS' illustrations and storyline are both 5 stars each so this book deserves 10 STARS! It is truly rare to find a book with a great story and illustrations like this one! No words I can utter would do this book justice--I'll let the book speak for itself:

"I'M READY TO SLEEP, ALL SAFE AND SNUG. I'VE HEARD A STORY AND HAD A HUG.

THANK YOU GOD, FOR A HAPPY DAY. GIVE ME A HAPPY TOMORROW, I PRAY.

I WONDER WHAT I'LL DREAM TONIGHT, HERE IN MY COZY BED. PERHAPS I'LL DREAM OF KINGS AND QUEENS OR JUST OF MY OLD BEAR, TED.

MY GUARDIAN ANGEL SPENDS THE NIGHT, AND KEEPS ME SAFE TILL MORNING'S LIGHT.

THANKS FOR THE SUN...THANKS FOR THE MOON...THANKS FOR THE STARS SO BRIGHT. THANKS FOR WATCHING OVER ME--MORNING, NOON AND NIGHT.

THANK YOU, GOD, FOR BOOKS AND TOYS TO SHARE WITH OTHER GIRLS AND BOYS.

THANK YOU, GOD, FOR EARTH AND SKY, FOR OCEANS DEEP AND MOUNTAINS HIGH, FOR SUMMER, WINTER, FALL AND SPRING--THANK YOU, GOD, FOR EVERYTHING."

Night-night, sweet dreams and remember God loves you!

Good Bedtime routine
My two-year-old loves this book! We read it every night before going to bed. The rhyming prayer was easy for her to memorize, so she now "reads" the book to me. The poem reviews the bedtime routine and reminds kids to be thankful for their world.

Terrific Luggage Labels
This booklet and 40 luggage labels does the trick! I wanted to decorate an old travel case and didn't want to go to the expense of buying lots of vingage luggage labels that are now worn and easy to tear, so I bought this collection and it's perfect! Clear, crisp images of various sizes and from lots of different hotels around the world. I was more than pleased!

If you love the Golden Age of travel...
The book and labels are fantastic! I purchased some old luggage, applied these labels, and had instant, vintage luggage! The labels are great reproductions with vivid color. The booklet has a lot of information on the history of luggage labels and the Golden Era of travel. A great addition to any collection!

Luggage Labels : And the Golden Age of Travel
My mother got this selection and it saved me the trouble of looking for individual stickers.

Magic Friend Maker (Beginning Readers)

What a gem!
The edition of this book that I have is the Whitman Small World Library book, by Gladys Baker Bond. I have the most wonderful memories of this book from when I was a child, and my children are equally entranced. The shyness and warmth between Beth and Jean, two girls who become friends by sharing a beautiful rock, is perfectly depicted by illustrator Stina Nagel. The image of the red and blue-streaked rock itself has stayed with me for over thirty years. I can't recommend this book enough for its simple and enduring message that sharing something special is the best way to make friends.

ROCKn' Friend Maker
Who knew that a book could touch the lives of two scared children that moved constantly. This book is a favorite of mine and my brother. It helped us to see that moving to a new place could be an adventure shared with new friends. I am 25 and I still have the rock I collected after reading this book. This is a wonderful example of how something as simple as a rock can introduce you to friends and new beginnings.

Sharing is the Magic Friend Maker
This is a favorite book from my childhood. It was given to me by my mother when we moved to a new town. The story takes place in a city, with a lonely "new girl" in the neighborhood. She longs for a friend, and creates a special one after sharing a special stone she found in a country stream. The friends share many fun times, and often play games with the rock, this "magic friend maker". When the owner of the rock moves again, she leaves the magic friend maker with her new best friend, so that "the magic can work again." This is a wonderful book which promotes sharing, creative expression, dealing with fear & lonliness of moving, loss of a friendship and hope for another. Beautiful illustrations capture the simple joys of childhood.

Magic, Mystery, and Mayhem : A complete guide to starting and running your own mother-daughter book group

Magic, Mystery and Mayhem
This book is for anyone who wants to read with children - their own children, their grandchildren - or even the neighbors' children. Although it does have strategies for building a book club, it also has tips for building a reading relationship between one adult and one or two kids. For instance, the book gives ways to read books that have some disturbing events in them - such as any book dealing with the holocaust will have. Don't get me wrong - it isn't all serious, but discussing serious issues is very possible with young readers and this collabortive team lets us know how to do that.

If all parents read with their children in this way, we would have a nation of amazing adolescents on their way to becoming fine leaders and thinkers. Now - THAT'S a thought. . . .

Magic, Mystery, and Mayhem: Review - first not registered
This book's title should not scare off a mom or daughter who feels she doesn't have time or inclination to start a book group. Its content is great inspiration for reading with your own child or a child you care about (regardless of gender). For instance, there are some very good thoughts on how to help a child handle potentially disturbing or scarey parts of an otherwise enjoyable book. Also, the reviews in the last chapter are really meaningful as a suggested reading list.

With the above in mind, I have suggested this to friends in my generation (as a grandparent) as well as to young parents and friends.

Magic, Mystery and Mayhem
This wonderful gem should be publicized everywhere in the USA. Not only does it include practical suggestions for the mechanics of starting a parent-child book club, it also shines with whimsy and freshness. Reading this book is like conversing with friends whose good senses of humor temper problem solving and strengthen their relationships. Sidebars let us see the uniqueness of the members of this collaborative team, and the book reviews by these young girls reveal such perception and kindness. I am giving it to friends - young and old - throughout the year 2001.

Meet the Koopa Kids
Published in Paperback by Golden Pr (August, 1991)

Koopalings Komic Book
Mario and the Koopa Kids team up for a hilarious book, in "Mario Meets the Koopa Kids"! First, it's "B Kind 2 Tur-dull Day", as the Princess sends the Koopalings, who were trying to capture her, back to their own castle. Although it sounds like an escape for them, it turns out their father is furious. Not a good thing for the Koopalings. Next Mario and Bowser must work together, trying to escape from a sewer drain. It's too bad Luigi takes all the credit. In another episode, Wendy meets up with Stanley the Talking Fish, and wishes she hadn't. In the final one, Bowser, Mario and Luigi all get caught in a real-life struggle which was supposed to be an acting out of a comic book episode. With Lemmy Koopa dressed up as Toad, this could become trouble for the Marios, but hilarious for the readers. There isn't any other comic book out there that is as funny as this one. A must-buy for Mario and Koopa fans!

Cool comic book
This was a really good book, it was funny, and the Koopa Kids are cool. It's one of my favorite comic books. Get it if you can!!!

The Koopalings make reprints.
Valiant reprints appearances of the Koopalings from SMB3.

In the Koopaling's debut, "Bowser Knows Best" (The Adventures of SMB #9), they capture Peach for Father's Day, but Peach gets away using a cake she baked for the King (they thought it was a burnt turnip).

Mario and Bowser are blasted by Lemmy in "Buddy System" (SMB #6), chained up, and having to use teamwork (like in Super Mario RPG).

Then, in "Fins and Roses" (SMB #4), Wendy is trying to blast Mario out of the picture, but Stanley the Talking Fish, from SMB #3, annoys her.

And last comes "Revenge of Pipe Ooze" (TAOTSMB #7), Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and the King are acting out the Dirk Drain-Head story "Hot and Cold Running Brains". Mario is Dirk, Luigi is Dirk's partner Snakey, Peach is Baroness Blue Blood, and... Bowser and Lemmy are Pipe Ooze and Muck?! They socked out the King and Toad!

Brilliant!
Beautifully written, facinating and touching; One of the best books I ever read!

Brilliant!
What a fascinating book! I couldn't put it down. The characters are well defined and credible; the story must have been written by the Geisha herself - congrats, Arthur Golden!

Mom From Nevada
My two and a half year old really loves this book. She likes to "read" the words that are printed in picture form. The counting and rhyming and sweet story make it fun to read over and over!

Pre-readers love rebus books
My daughter is 21-months old, and a very early talker who loves books. Now that she is starting to handle a little plot, she is obsessed with rebus books, especially this one (I think it's the bright colors and charming animal characters that make this one her favorite.) Don't let the older age listing discourage you from buying it!

Great Rhyming/Great Illustrations!
Perfect rhyming scheme helps to tell a story little kids will want to listen to over and over again. My 2 year old loves to shout out the rhyming words. Great buy!
